Religous Education Programs at the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship

UCF is a Green Sanctuary. We are a congregation that attempts to live out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable life style for its members as individuals and as a faith community.

Lifespan religious education

is an important and ongoing component in the life and organization of the Fellowship. A religious education trustee on the governing board of UCF , an acting RE administrator and a religious education committee plans, recruits leadership and oversees a program of religious education. Included are classes for children on Sunday mornings, an emerging teen and pre-teen youth group and classes for adults. A professional nanny provides care for infants and pre-schoolers.

If you have questions about lifespan religious education at UCF, contact our minister, Reverend Sally B. White (at the church office 240-2283) or Debra Guthrie (725-9413).

ADULT PROGRAMS

A range of lay and minister led adult classes are offered during the year. These are held during the week or on Sunday afternoons and focus on exploring and discussing our Unitarian Universalist history, traditions, and beliefs, current social issues, and spiritual and religious experience. Opportunities exist for members of the congregation to suggest, initiate, and sustain additional programs that address their spiritual, religious, and intellectual yearnings.

If you have questions about lifespan religious education at UCF, contact our minister, Reverend Sally B. White (at the church office 240-2283) or our RE administrator, Debra Guthrie (725-9413).

NATURE AND ART KIDS' CAMP

July 2008

A week of nature camp led by Manda Long and a week of drama camp led by Sharon Farmer were held in July. Both camps were a huge success with many happy day campers.  Hats off to the leaders and their volunteer assistants!

SEPTEMBER
2010 RE News

by Debra Guthrie,

Religious Education Administrator

I know it is my month off, but I thought I would write a little something to get my mind straight as much as anything. The summer camp was a big success with 15 or so kids participating and a bunch of adult volunteers. Thank you all for all you did to make that fun. Rev Sally provided the snacks every day and Ann Odell did some awesome music. Of course, we never could have pulled it off without Emilee Mroz and her mother, Sandee. I was amazed at how it all came together. I was only able to attend for a few hours, but I had so much fun with the kids—Rev. Sally said I was a bad influence—I do tend to cause anarchy with children. Viva la Revolution!!!

I spent the second week in August at the leadership experience at the mountain with our president Karen Rettie and vice-president Penny Hooper, two of the finest women ever plopped down on the earth. Secret—those two turn into a couple of little girls at night-- giggling uncontrollably. The experience was life changing. I recommend it to anyone. I made some friends, I laughed a lot and I cried a lot. I love our religion.

I want to thank all the people who volunteered to help with RE this month. We still have some big projects going and are looking at ideas to teach in the fall and winter – I don‘t know how it is going to pan out yet.

David has not been able to get the photo project going so that will probably stretch into the first of September. I was thinking about a food project based on the book The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. I think that would be cool. If you have read a book that you feel the children could learn from and we can have a related activity, call me up and we will do it. Also upcoming-- I received, as a result of networking at Leadership School, some hints on new curriculum, so I am looking into all that.
I guess the children will be back in school soon. Man! Time flies and we all grow up. It is crazy.
